Where can I sell my piano?

Piano Etrade lets private owners and piano businesses advertise to people browsing by brand, model, piano type and location. Your piano listing is free for 12 months unless you delete it earlier. Optional paid boosts are separate; you can list without buying a boost.

A free piano listing means there is no listing fee. It does not mean you must give your piano away. State your asking price clearly and agree the sale and collection arrangements with the buyer.

Buyers may be nearby or farther away. Accurate location and access details help them judge the practical cost of collecting your instrument. A listing does not guarantee a buyer or a sale price.

1. Identify your piano and describe its condition

Write down the brand, model and piano type: upright, grand, digital or another type shown on the listing form. Use the name on the instrument rather than guessing from its appearance. Add its approximate age only if you know it, and say when a detail is unknown.

Describe how the keys and pedals work, visible wear, known faults and any recent servicing. Explain whether an acoustic piano has been tuned recently. If you have dated service records, mention them. Avoid claims such as fully restored or concert standard unless you can support them.

If you are unsure about condition, ask a piano technician to inspect it. An inspection can identify work a buyer may need to consider; it is different from a guaranteed selling valuation.

2. Choose a realistic asking price

Compare pianos for sale with a similar brand, model, age, condition and location. Asking prices are what sellers hope to receive; they do not prove the final amount paid. A dealer advert may include preparation, delivery or a warranty that a private sale does not offer.

Consider any repair or moving costs alongside the price. A piano that needs major work may appeal to a different buyer from one ready for regular practice. If you need a professional opinion, search the piano services directory and confirm the scope and cost of that advice directly.

3. Take photos that answer buyers’ questions

Show the whole instrument, keyboard, pedals, brand and model markings, and any visible damage. Use clear light and keep the instrument in focus. For a digital piano, show the controls and included stand, pedals or power supply. Do not move heavy parts or dismantle a piano just to take a photo.

Check photos for private paperwork, people or household details you do not want to share. List what is included, such as a stool or cover, and give useful dimensions where known. Keep the description honest and consistent with the photos.

4. Publish your advert and answer enquiries

Open the free listing form, sign in or create and confirm your account, and follow the steps. Check the instrument details, photos, price and public location before publishing. Use a clear title based on the piano itself.

Check Buyer messages in your account and reply to questions about condition, availability and collection. Keep your advert current. Once the piano is no longer available, update its status or withdraw it so other buyers do not make unnecessary enquiries.

5. Plan inspection and collection safely

Agree a suitable inspection time and confirm who will arrange and pay for transport. Tell the mover about stairs, narrow doors, lifts and difficult access before agreeing a quote. Ask a piano mover about the handling your particular instrument needs. Our piano moving checklist helps you collect the access and booking details.

Be cautious if someone pressures you to act immediately, sends an unfamiliar payment link or offers more than the agreed price and asks for a refund. Check payment through your own payment provider. Read our safety advice and contact Piano Etrade if an advert or enquiry seems unsafe.
